Visit to Compliance Assistance Centre and A Meeting on the VRW Partnership Programme

• On 24th November 2006, representatives of the Hong Kong Vehicle Repair Merchants Association (HKVRMA) and Environmental Vehicle Repairers Association (EVRA) visited the Compliance Assistance Centre of the Environmental Protection Department (EPD) located at 28/F., Southorn Centre, 130 Hennessy Road, Hong Kong and attended a meeting on “Partnership Programme for the Vehicle Repair Workshop Trade”.

• The visitors were briefed on the purposes and scope of services of the “Compliance Assistance Centre”. The scope of services includes licence application, provision of guidance on compliance with environmental legislations, environmental management tools, appointment for meeting, and so on.

• EPD introduced to the trade environmental management tools such as ISO14001 certification. Apart from small and medium vehicle repair workshops, these tools can be used by vehicle traders and related businesses.

• EPD briefed on the statistics on pollution complaints by vehicle repair workshops, recently prepared information on environmental protection, and promoted environmentally friendly practices to the trade.

• Both HKVRMA and EVRA nominated their members for the new tenure of Environmental Ambassadors while EPD uploaded on the Green Garage Website an invitation for interested operators to serve as Environmental Ambassadors, and arranged to organize the Environmental Ambassador Appointment Ceremony and the related courses on environmental protection.
